Project

  • Located in Howth, Co. Dublin

  • 8 employees
  • Website design
  • Generate business for our clients

25
Challenges
  • Low barriers to entry
  • Technophobia
  • Getting paid
  • Technological developments
  • Motivating and rewarding
  • Generating new business
  • Reasons
  • Anyone with a PC and sense of humour can be a web
    designer!
  • Lack of recognition of the value of good design
  • Competitive labour market
  • Word-of-mouth nature of the business

26
Before Accel
  • Go2web recognised the value of training
  • Were no spring chickens and weve seen the
    benefits of training
  • Signed up for Plato in 2002, also part of ISME
    Skillnet
  • Heard of the Accel / H2L project in early 2006
  • Particularly interested to get involved at the
    gestation stage of the project
  • A position on the Board / Steering Committee was
    a bonus
  • Accel / H2L fits with the companys need to
    network widely
  • Great opportunity to mesh our various networks
    together

27
Project Development
  • Awarded Accel Development Grant Nov. 05
  • Involved Billy Linehan, Polaris Training, Derek
    McGlynn of Sound Productions
  • Companies interested in training but lacking the
    right vehicle or know how
  • Several people volunteered to get the project off
    the ground
  • Training needs analysis - input from the initial
    20-25 companies
  • Proposal was drawn up for submission to Accel and
    approved in 2006
  • Go2web invited to the inaugural meeting of H2L,
    June 2006

28
Training with Accel
  • Go2web training for management over 5 years in
    the job
  • Benefits such as training happens at all levels
    within the company
  • Accel / H2L programme suits Go2web as a company
i.e. it matches our need to train across the
    organisation
  • Facilitates training that address issues within
the company - from recruitment to motivation and
    so on
  • Accel / H2L allows access to more productive
    training
  • Direct influence on course material design

29
Networking
  • Go2web needs networks for its survival
  • Accel / H2L is a new network with many new
    contacts
  • Contacts are being built up at all levels
  • Particular value for Go2web is the referral
potential e.g. some members of our BNI (breakfast
networking) group have joined Accel / H2L, and
    vice versa!
  • Would never have happened if Go2web had not been
    part of Accel / H2L

30
Impact
  • Go2web remains as committed as it has ever been
    to training
  • H2L is a vital company strategy to build staff
skills, motivation and ability to add value to
    our services
  • Annual company contribution means no financial
barriers to use of the H2L training
  • Tangible bottom line impacts?
  • Improved interviewing skills
  • Better presentation skills
  • Negotiating skills

31
Impact
  • H2L courses offer an opportunity to break from
the work pressure and focus on building essential
    skills and/or addressing specific issues
  • H2L involvement is yielding positive results for
the company and we wish to continue with it
  • If you care about the health of your company, the
effectiveness and well-being of your employees
and work life balance, get involved in a training
    network!
