CLEAN ROOM FOR SCIENTIFIC DEPARTMENT OF NUCLEI
COLLISIONS
IN THE LHE JINR
  • According to conceptual
    requirement, which is asserted to industrial
    sites destined for mass production of modern
    particle detectors, the presence a clean rooms of
    a high class of cleanness is obligatory in
    structure of these sites for such scaled
    experiments as ALICE, ATLAS, CMS. The realization
    of finishing operations, in particular, for
    assembly of wire chambers in conditions of "a
    clean room" is a necessary condition, which
    guarantees their high reliability and
    uninterrupted work during experiment.
  • To ensure a fulfillment to these
    conditions the room of a high class of
    cleanliness satisfying to all necessary
    requirements was constructed in LHE within the
    framework of experiment ALICE (theme leader
    A.Vodopianov). The clean room was created by
    joint efforts of the collaborators from Nuclear
    Collisions Department LHE JINR and Research
    Centre of Applied Nuclear Physics Minatom of
    Russian Federation - the members of
    Collaboration. RCANP is leading organization on
    development track pore membranes and concerned
    products on their basis. It has wide experience
    in building of clean rooms for the various
    purposes - from rooms for assembly of detectors
    up to operation-room in various clinics in
    Moscow.
  • The clean room was assembled from
    metal wall panels of "sandwich" type by the
    specialists who are possessing experience of
    realization of similar tasks, confirmed by the
    license for installation of clean rooms. The
    equipment and materials certified in the proper
    way were used for assembly of the room. Use of
    such materials, and subsequent certification of
    the room is a guarantee that parameters of
    climatic conditions inside a room will correspond
    to the requirements established in the technical
    design reports for detectors assembly during
    whole term of manufacture.

Room has working area 28 m2 and there is
two areas inside, from which a basic one - where
an detectors assembly take place, is central area
of 12 m2, that corresponds to a class 1000 of
cleanliness (less than 35 dust particles by the
size 0.5 microns per litre of air). Another one
is peripheral area by class 10000. The room
environment cleanness is provided by diffuse gas
exchanger based on track pore membranes and
filters for preliminary cleaning located in the
air preparation lodge. In the same place the
air-conditioner and noise-suppressor are
installed to ensure stable air temperature and
humidity modes and comfortable service
conditions. The access in the clean room for the
personnel occurs only through tambour, which
volume is cleaned during work as well. The
special clothes - service gownes, gloves, head
covers and footwears intended for realization in
the clean environment are used in the room.
The clean room can work in several modes. Basic
is an air circulating mode with air cleaning from
aerosols and submission 15 - 30 of external
fresh air. It allows to achieve the very high
level of air cleanness and to support it for a
long time. The maintenance of the room cleaning
and ventilation is completely automated and
allows smooth and exact adjustment of operation
modes of the room, according to parameters set of
air temperature and humidity. The erected
clean room is well-built-in in industrial site,
arranged around room. This advantage allows to
carry out a complete cycle of detectors
manufacture and testing inside the laboratory
building in stable air temperature and humidity
conditions without transportation of detectors on
long distances.
