appointed first of all apostles, second prophets,

others, those with gifts of administration, and
those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith

Lesson Three - Objectives
  • You will learn from Scripture two of the things
that the Church needs to be doing.
  • You will choose one Scripture verse from this
lesson or the last lesson and for two weeks you
will keep track of your efforts to carry out what
    it says.
  • You will read Scripture verses to discover what
qualities are important in choosing and
    appointing people for leadership positions.
  • You will choose one way to serve God by serving
    your church body.

33
Qualities of Church Leaders
To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow
elder, a witness of Christs sufferings and one
who also will share in the glory to be revealed
Be shepherds of Gods flock that is under your
care, serving as overseers not because you
must, but because you are willing, as God wants
you to be not greedy for money, but eager to
serve not lording it over those entrusted to
you, but being examples to the flock (1 Peter
51-3)
34
Qualities of Church Leaders
Here is a trustworthy saying If anyone sets his
heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble
task. Now the overseer must be above reproach,
the husband of but one wife, temperate,
self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to
teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but
gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He
must manage his own family well and see that his
children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone
does not know how to manage his own family, how
can he take care of Gods church?).
35
Qualities of Church Leaders
He must not be a recent convert, or he may
become conceited and fall under the same judgment
as the devil. He must also have a good reputation
with outsiders, so that he will not fall into
disgrace and into the devils trap. Deacons,
likewise, are to be men worthy of respect,
sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not
pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of
the deep truths of the faith with a clear
conscience. They must first be tested and then
if there is nothing against them, let them serve
as deacons. (1 Timothy 31-10)
36
Qualities of Church Leaders
Dont let anyone look down on you because you
are young, but set an example for the believers
in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in
purity. 1 Timothy 412
37
Qualities of Leadership
What do leaders do, including you, to store up
heavenly treasures? Obeying God Being faithful to
Gods calling Setting a godly example Serving the
church body, etc.
38
Things the Church Needs to be Doing
Let us consider how we may spur one another on
toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up
meeting together, as some are in the habit of
doing, but let us encourage one another - and all
the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews
1024-25
39
What Does the Church Need to be Doing
You my brothers, were called to be free. But do
not use your freedom to indulge the sinful
nature rather, serve one another in love.
