K-State STEP established six programs to increase
the retention of STEM students during their first
two years of college. The programs serve all
students with special emphasis on the needs of
females and students of color.
Scholars Assisting Scholars (SAS) employs
exceptional student tutors who are female or
students of color. The tutors are trained,
assigned to a specific section of a course, and
paid to attend class. SAS Tutors are a tutoring
resource for ALL students taking the course.
Courses selected focus on the greatest retention
challenges.
