HOMOEOPATHIC EDUCATION An Overview
2
MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT HOMOEOPATHY
Do the Homoeopathic Physician believe in - - -
PATHOLOGY DIAGNOSIS ? Homoeopathic
Physician does not require a detailed study
of the subjects like Anatomy, Physiology,
Pathology, Surgery, Medicine etc. The
Prescription in Homoeopathic practice is
determined by a detailed study of the
symptomatology outside the diagnostic sphere.
3
MEDICAL PRACTICE A PATIENT
calls on the Physician with
complaints.A PATIENT is brought to the
Physician with complaints.

?Does
it make a difference to the Physician ?

to the outcome ?
?The
PATIENT poses a problem to whom ?
The problem belongs
to whom ?
is defined by whom ?
is resolved by whom ?

?WE NEED TOTAL CLARITY ON THESE FUNDAMENTAL
ISSUES. ?WE NEED TO
TAKE UP THE CASE WE NEED TO EXAMINE THE CASE
?FOR PROBLEM - - -
DEFINITION PROBLEM - - - RESOLUTION
4
THE PATIENT who is he ?

?The PATIENT is one - - who is in trouble

OR is the cause of all troubles !
?HOW WHY does he
become one ?
?WE HAVE TO BE CLEAR ON THIS
? The PHYSICIAN claims
to be an expert in the
solution of all
troubles
?The PHYSICIAN is always ready to DISCOVER -
- - the fine art of UNCOVERING, DEFINING
RESOLVING - - - PROBLEMS - - -
in HOMOEOPATHIC PRACTICE

? Better late
than never.
5
IMPORTANCE OF DIAGNOSIS IN HOMOEOPATHY1.
OFFERS A FULL COMPREHENSION OF THE PATIENTS
PERSONALITY, CONSTITUTIOON THE MECHANISM OF
PRODUCTION OF SYMPTOMS ( Subjective Objective
).2. GIVES IDEA OF THE LOCATIONS ( Tissues
Organs affected ), THE PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES
( Type, degree Extent ), THE PATHOGENIC
AGENTS, THE PHYSIOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES
PATHOGENESIS.3. KNOWLEDGE OF DIAGNOSTIC
SYMPTOMS HELPS IN DETERMINING THE INDIVIDUAL
CHARACTERSTIC SYMPTOMS FOR HOMOEOPATHIC
PRESCRIPTION.4. ENABLES THE PHYSICIAN TO CHOSE
HIS CASE FOR TREATMENT.5. HELPS TO KNOW THE
LOCATIONS NATURE OF PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES
PRESENT.6. HELPS IN UNDERSTANDING THE
ADVANCEMENT OF THE PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES TO
KNOW ANY VITAL ORGANS ARE AFFECTED OR NOT.7.
ENABLES THE HOMOEOPATHIC PHYSICIAN TO PLAN THE
GENERAL PROPHYLACTIC MEASURES.
6
IMPORTANCE OF PROGNOSIS IN
HOMOEOPATHYENABLES THE PHYSICIAN TO
DETERMINE-1. The probability of cure.2. The
chances of recovery.3. The possibility of
recurrence.4. The time that will be taken for
resuming the normal pursuit.
7
HOMOEOPATHY THE SCIENCE OF THERAPEUTICS
A system
of scientific constitutional drug
therapeutics in which
remedy is select
on the ground of its power to produce
in the
healthy a disturbance of health - -
similar to the
disease condition of the
patient, giving full scope to
the
prescribers artistic abilities.

?
Experience concept, not theory ,
must
decide for / against the therapeutic value
of such a
method of selection.

EXPRESSIONS( Signs Symptoms )
( Signs

of the DRUG

To understand the phenomena of the disease
we must call to our aid ANATOMY PHYSIOLOGY - -
the basic science - - to know the normal - - -
- Form Function - Structure of an
Individual. PATHOLOGY - - to understand the
altered Form Function - Structure.
SURGERY,GYNAE. OBST., MEDICINE - - to
understand the Expressions of the Disease, its
prognosis, complications and Scope Limitation
to cure. MATERIA MEDICA, ORGANON

To understand the phenomena of the disease we
must call to our aid ANATOMY PHYSIOLOGY -
- the basic science in understanding the
normal - - Form Function - Structure of an
Individual. PATHOLOGY - - in understanding -
- the altered Form Function - Structure.
SURGERY,GYNAE. OBST., MEDICINE etc. - - in
understanding the Expressions of the Diseases,
their prognosis, complications and Scopes
Limitations to cure. To apply the Homeopathic
principles to the phenomena of sickness - - in
correcting the altered state - - the knowledge of
the subjects HOMOEO. PHARMACY, MATERIA MEDICA,
ORGANON, REPERTORY etc. - - - are essential.
10
UNDERSTANDING OF HEALTH DISEASE
IN HOMOEOPATHY HEALTH
a state indicating harmonious
functioning of the Life Force
leading to a peculiar sense of well
being
OR an absence
of any symptoms / any disease
OR
a dynamic equilibrium between
man his environment DISEASE
dynamic derangement of the vital harmony of
the whole organism
MANIFESTED -
1. First in the sphere of sensation.
( Feeling of illness various
unpleasant sensations )
2. Then in the sphere of functions.
(
Various functional disorders )
3. Then
in the sphere of constituents / structures.
( Cells, Tissues, Fluids,
Organs Systems of the body )

HAHNEMANNS VISION ON HOMOEOPATHIC EDUCATION
In 3rd Aphorism of ORGANON of MEDICINE,
Hahnemann has summed up his views on homoeopathic
medical education

? To be a true practitioner of the healing
art - - the physician has to first know what is
to be cured in the diseases, - - - knowledge of
the diseases
?the physician has to know
the normal function structure - - to understand
abnormal function structure

?So
the FIRST STEP requires more than formal
knowledge of - 1. ANATOMY,
PHYSIOLOGY etc. 2. Knowledge of Mans
place in nature / society community.
3. Maladjustment - - responsible for deviation
in normal pattern of
health in an individual.
4. Knowledge of functional structural
changes I.e. Pathology.
13
The SECOND STEP - - is to
find out what is curative in medicine - -
Knowledge of medicinal powers - -
involve - - - 1. The study of Proving
Homoeopathic Materia Medica. 2. To understand
- - - (a). The physiological
action of drug / medicine
upon Cells, Tissues, Organs, Systems.
(b). Clinical aspects of drugs.
(c). Sphere of actions / Regions affected
and (d). Particulars, etc.
14
The THIRD STEP
- - involves the study of
Principles
and other directions for application
of Homeopathic Materia
Medica to the
phenomena of sickness
so that the CURE takes place.
( Study of ORGANON - - - especially the Practical
part, Chronic diseases, Homoeopathic
Philosophy, Repertory etc. )
15
TRAINING OF THE HOMOEOPATHICPHYSICIAN ?
PRACTICE - - is ACTION. PRACTICE EVOLVES
out of - - EXPERIENCE LEARNING.
EDUCATION - - seeks to provide the right
situation so that ? REQUISITE
DATA BASE ? CONCEPTS
Evolve
? SKILLS
in the ? JUDGEMENTS
Lerner.
EDUCATION - - seeks to mould MAN.
EDUCATION - - must understand MAN with TOTAL
CLARITY.  TOTAL CLARITY - - is possible
only at CONCEPTUAL LEVEL
never at
DESCRIPTIVE LEVEL.

A
CLEAR CONCEPT OF MAN EFFECTIVE IN - -
understanding
------------ HEALTH, DISEASE RECOVERY.
IN-ADEQUATE CLARITY AT THIS FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL -
- reflects on the ADEQUACY of EDUCATION be
it - -
GENERAL, MEDICINAL or

HOMOEOPATHIC.
16
GENERAL PHILOSOPHY AND METHODOLOGY?
LEARNING is not INFORMATION
Acquisition Storage Retrieval
Reproduction LEARNING is not SKILL
Acquisition
OperationLEARNING demands INFORMATION
as well as SKILLS.LEARNING comprises
EXPERIENCE Acquisition
Analysis

Interpretation

Synthesis - - -Integration to make

the Integer.
Experience demands ACTION of the learner in
relation With CIRCUMSTANCE appropriate.
Action demands Acceptance by the learner.
Of the
circumstance.
Of the directives.
Of the functioning the Mode and
Implementation of

what is ACCEPTED.
17
Training program enable the Homoeopathic
Physician to undertake ? ACCURATE
UNPREJUDICED OBSERVATION OF EACH CASE.
? CROSS - SECTION STUDY OF THE PATIENT TO GET AN
IDEA OF THE PRESENT
ILLNESS. ? LONGITUDINAL SECTION STUDY
OF THE PATIENT TO
UNDERSTAND THE PATIENT AS A PERSON

WHY COME DOWN TO ILLNESS. ? DIAGNOSIS
OF THE DISEASE - - TO PATHOGENESIS,
FUNCTIONAL DISTURBANCES STRUCTURAL
CHANGES. ? DIAGNOSIS OF THE PATIENT TO
FIND OUT THE - - ? Core the
causative factors i.e. the predisposing
precipitating
factors. ? Form the actual
picture of the illness. ?
Individuality the physical mental
characteristic property. ?
Differentiation to arrive at the similimum /
the diagnosis of
the homoeopathic
remedy.
18
CONCLUSION ? The
Homoeopathic Physician should be conversant
with the tools ? The technique of
application of the principles to
practice i.e. Case taking
Case analysis
Case
synthesis.Through an elaborate
training Programme / Learning
(Both Theoretical and Clinical) - - - to arrive
at the proper verdict --- of 1.
Diagnosis of the disease the person
afflicted.2. Prognosis for Probability of cure,
Chances of Recovery, Possibilities
of recurrence Time will
be taken for resuming
the usual routine etc.3. Treatment
for Curative aspect (Similimum) Preventive
aspect.
