2HEFCE 2006-11Strategic priorities in widening
participation main strands of activity
- Increasing demand for HE and opportunities to
access it - We will work with the sector and with
partnerships such as Aimhigher and Lifelong
Learning Networks to foster close links between
universities, colleges and schools to ensure that
young people have coherent and clear pathways to
higher education
3Lifelong Learning Networks
- The overall objective for Lifelong Learning
Networks (LLNs) is to improve the coherence,
clarity and certainty of progression
opportunities for vocational learners into and
through higher education. - BUT Have LLNS achieved this?
- BIG BUT Launched 2004 with 3 year funding
- Sustainability against further cuts in higher
education funding specifically and public funding
in general?
4Lifelong Learning NetworksHEFCE Monitoring
(2008 Reports)
- Progression agreements are a key part of LLN
activity - Shared understanding and provide clear pathways
to HE for vocational learners - Curriculum development and employer engagement
- Involvement of Sector Skills Councils
- Up-skill staff in partner institutions etc

11AUEEMOVE is consistent with the following Aim
- To widen access to HE in the region and increase
the higher level skills available to employers -
through increased numbers of graduates, wider
distribution of HE educational training
opportunities, flexible delivery of programmes
designed to meet the needs of students and
employers and improved progression routes to
higher education - BUT
- Lets celebrate success and identify what of MOVE
can be sustained without direct HEFCE subvention
