Re-modelling aims to
  • Deliver the National Agreement
  • Give Teachers time to teach
  • Develop Support Staff
  • Personalise Learning
  • Promote the Philosophy of Every Child Matters
  • Enable Networking and Collaboration
  • Raise Standards and the quality of every childs
    experience

Government targets
  • 50 of schools to be in (or through) the
    remodelling process by March 2005
  • 100 of schools to be in (or through) the
    remodelling process by March 2006

    Smithills, Blackshaw CP)

Support for remodelling schools
  • LEA staff will be attending events alongside
    school staff so far representatives from
    Training, Human Resources, Buildings, ICT,
    Governor Support and Finance have come to the
    training
  • LEA to select remodelling consultant leaders
    trained in the summer to work with schools
  • Work is underway re. job descriptions and
    competencies linked to appropriate grades

Local Delivery
  • The four one day events are designed to model the
    change process and work in school groups re
    taking remodelling forward in your school
  • We suggest the group attending the four events
    from each school includes the Head Teacher, a
    governor, a member of support staff, a teacher
  • Supply costs will be covered

Characteristics of schools successfully
remodelling include
  • Teaching and learning is the main focus
  • There is a change process involving many levels
    of the work force
  • Many levels of the workforce are involved in
    making decisions
  • Tasks and activities are undertaken by the
    appropriate people within flexible work patterns
  • Implementing the National Agreement

  • Managing change is a normal part of school life
  • Morale amongst the whole workforce is high
  • The schools shares experiences and learning with
    other schools
  • The work/life balance is acceptable to the whole
    workforce
  • All workforce and stakeholders are aware of the
    schools direction / vision

Some quick wins from a remodelling school
  • Faster photocopier cheaper in the long run,
    time and copy costs
  • Allocated whole areas of the school to support
    staff
  • Creative role for children helpers at lunchtime
  • More focussed meetings, merged some meetings
  • Split break times
  • parent helpers, training and induction programme

Some tips from a remodelling school
  • Ensure unions and governors are kept fully
    informed
  • This initiative involves the whole workforce
    not just teachers
  • Don't overlook what pupils can do to help
  • Consider reviewing parent / partnership policy
  • Work hard at communication and transparency
  • Balance quick wins with longer term improvements

HLTAs local criteria proposals for LEA finance
  • Staff employed in schools currently involved in
    remodelling or joining the programme in the
    summer term 2004
  • Supporting reference from HT with specified
    criteria e.g. ability to manage and support
    groups of children to learn, reliability,
    organisational skills
  • Willingness to pilot HLTA work, promote
    remodelling and contribute to evaluation
  • Ability to travel as necessary

HLTAs finance cont.
  • Willingness to support future trainees
  • Statement from HT re commitment to support the
    applicant through time to attend training, time
    to undertake assessment work in school, support
    for local impact evaluation, appointment of
    support teacher / mentor, possible employment
    opportunities
  • A learning agreement between the LEA and the
    school
  • Shared financing?
