  • 12th Conference of the EHA, Vienna, June 7th 2007

2
Aim
  • To investigate, whether
  • thrombocytopenia (TP) has an influence on
  • the risk for thromboembolism (TE)
  • in patients with persistent Lupus Antikoagulant
    (LA)

3
Patientscharacteristics
  • 124 patients with persistent LA
  • 99 female, 25 male
  • mean age 45 yrs., std.dev. 20 yrs.
  • 86 patients had a history of TE
  • 72 venous TE, 14 arterial TE
  • 70 female, 16 male
  • mean age 42 yrs., std.dev. 20 yrs.
  • 14 patients fulfilled the criteria for Systemic
Lupus Erythematodes (SLE), 11 of them had TE

Conclusion
  • In our cohort TP was more common in those
patients with LA who had not developed TE
  • Due to its low specificity and sensitivity TP is
not a reliable predictive parameter shown to have
influence on TE in patients with LA

Platelet antibodies in LA patients
  • Subgroup analysis of 97 patients
  • 65 patients had a history of TE
  • Both groups had platelet antibodies, but the
frequency was lower in patients with TE (plt0.01)
  • There was no correlation between platelet
    antibodies and platelet count
