Screenings will take place February
27March 5th and 6thMarch 19th

• Boys and Girls Athletics screened during 1st
  period.
• Everyone else during electives if possible.

SCOLIOSIS

• A side-to-side curve of the spinal column with
  twisting of the vertebrae

• 1 in 10 kids have some degree of scoliosis

• 85 no known cause
• detected during growth spurt(10-14yr)

• 15 occur during development of spine before birth

SEVERE SCOLIOSIS

• Ribs bunch together and put pressure on
  heart/lung
• Lower back pain as adult

SCREENING FOR SCOLIOSIS

• Grade 6/8
• Forward Bend Test

NURSE IS LOOKING FOR

• One shoulder higher than the other
• Obvious curve

SCOLIOMETER

• Measures the angle of trunk rotation

We will RE-CHECK you if the angle is between 4-7
degrees..
