Cadmus His children

• Europas father sent brothers to look for her.
• One brother Cadmus went to Delphi to ask Apollo
  where she was.
• Apollo said follow a heifer and build a city
  where she lay to rest
• Heifers land called Boeotia
• But to build the city he had to kill a dragon and
  he did.

Athena

• Athena appeared and told him sow the earth with
  dragons teeth.
• Armed men sprang up from furrows and attacked
  each other until all were killed.
• Only 5 were alive to help him build a city.

• Herodotus and his wife Harmonia ( daughter of
  AresAphrodite)
• Harmonia had 4 daughters and 1 son
• Ino perished before Zeus
• Ino was the wicked mother of Phrixus
• Her husband was struck with madness who killed
  his own son
• Phrixus carried him and herself to sea and became
  gods.

• Apollo told him he was fated to kill his own
  father.
• He resolved to never see Polybus again.
• Grateful citizens made him king of Thebes when he
  made the Sphinx kill herself.
• Married Jocasta and had two sons.

• Third descent from Cadmus
• Married distant cousin, Jocasta.
• An oracle warned him he would die at the foot of
  his son.

• Fearful monster
• Created like a winged lion, but with the breast
  and face of a woman.
• Only let people pass if they could tell her the
  right answer to her riddles.
• Killed herself.

• Once King L had died she re-married to Oedipus.

• His oracle at Delphi played a leading role in
  King Laius family fortunes.
• His oracle warned King L that he was to die at
  the foot of his son.
• He declared plague.

• After Jocastas death Odedipus lived on along

• Had two sons, Polyneices and Eteocles
• Had two daughters, Antigone and Ismene

• He was given burial at the price of his sisters
  life.
• His soul was free to be ferried across the river
  and find a home among the dead.

• He went to the King of Athens, Theseus, to demand
  him to allow the Thebans to have their bodies to
  be buried.
