  • Wellness is broader than health, which often
    means only physical health.

    person chooses.

Medical Model of Health
  • You are healthy if you are not sick or dying
  • There is a biological explanation for disease
  • There is a malfunction within the individual
  • Does not deal with social, mental, or behavioral
    issues

Environmental Model of Health
  • Health is how well an individual adapts to a
    changing environment
  • Conditions outside the individual affect their
    health
  • Considers harmful substances in the environment
    and social conditions

Holistic Model of Health
  • Health is defined in terms of the whole person
    which includes all dimensions which affect health
  • Wellness is a concept created from the holistic
    model
  • It is a dynamic process that takes our decisions
    and behaviors into account
