Title: Final Project

1
Final Project
  • Maura Curran and Emily Delisle

2
Project Ideas
  • A robot that will type its name.
  • Too complicated- too many keys in different
    places
  • A robot that will type a math problem
  • Subtraction is easiest
  • stays in the same line and there is less chance
of hitting keys in another row

3
What worked - and didnt
  • Two arms each with two fingers moving in opposite
    directions
  • didnt work - in order to make the fingers go
in different directions, they had to be attached
in a way that gave them no power
  • One arm with one finger to hit each key while
the robot moves back and forth
  • this worked but still had some problems

4
Problems
  • Giving the finger enough power to hit the key
  • solution - add weight to the robot - coins and
    rocks
  • The robot was too heavy to move
  • solution - give it more power, and remove some of
    the weight

Our robot after the extra weight was added. (Her
name is Zoe.)
5
More Problems
  • The finger stayed on the key too long, creating
    strings of numbers
  • solution - use a small axle for the finger so it
makes a full rotation, tapping the key as it
    swings

Us - before we ran into all these problems
6
Even More Problems
  • The robots movements were inconsistent. It hit
different keys each time we ran the same program.
  • Solution
  • changing the pulleys into gears
  • changing from a rack and pinion to wheels

Zoe with added gears, but still using a rack and
pinion.
7
Victory at Last!!!
  • Zoe was able to move smoothly in a straight line,
    and hit keys more consistently
  • She was able to type 7-70 except when she
    was being taped

Zoe, finally working!!
