Airfield Driving Rules/Quick
Facts
  • RADIO PHRASEOLOGY
  • Never use the words CLEAR, CLEARED or
CLEARANCE when in radio communication with the
    Control Tower.
  • Operators must UNDERSTAND and READ BACK ALL
    Control Tower instructions.
  • NEVER ASSUME. If you are not sure what the
Control Tower said, ask them to repeat their
instructions (say again). Aviation safety and
    lives depend on assumptions!
  • POV PASSES
  • - The Airfield is a controlled environment.
  • - POVs are not authorized on the airfield
without a POV pass from Airfield Management.
  • Unit CCs/ADPMs must ensure POV pass requests
specify only areas (bldgs, etc) required to
    perform official duties.
  • POV passes must be displayed in the vehicle
    while in the approved areas.
  • DRIVING RULES
  • All drivers are required to their AF IMT483,
Certificate of Competency, in possession while
    operating on the airfield.
  • All vehicles must yield to taxiing/towed
aircraft. Drivers will not pass taxiing/towed
aircraft going faster than 5 MPH.
  • Drive on taxiway shoulders (unless performing
official duties, or excess weight vehicle) and
    avoid taxiway centerlines.
  • Help avoid Runway Incursions CMA Violations!
Airfield Management is only agency authorized to
    conduct RWY/CMA training.
  • AFLD MGMT RANDOM CHECKS
  • Randomly issue written test to ensure program
    effectiveness.
  • Conduct spot AF IMT Form 483/POV checks on the
    airfield.
