Kuczmarskis Definition of Innovation
  • Innovation is best described as a pervasive
attitude that allows businesses to see beyond the
present and create a future vision.

Kuczmarski, Thomas D. Innovation Leadership
Strategies for the Competitive Edge.
Lincolnwood, IL NTC Business Books, 1996, p. 3.
7
Key components of successful innovation
  • the ability to envision the future
  • the use of intuitive thinking and creativity
  • well-managed implementation

8
Example of envisioning the future Anyone could
run reports when they need them
  • The staff in ER wouldnt have to spent time
running reports and could do other tasks instead.
  • The individuals who want reports could have those
at the actual point of need which would allow
them to be more effective and productive.
  • Even standard reports could be more customized to
the need of the individual rather than having to
make do with the standard report.
  • Individuals would become more expert at
extracting information from the system which
would lead to new ways of solving problems and
    assessing issues.

9
Intuition
  • A quick or ready insight or new idea, based in
some way on past experience, feelings, and
    memories
  • A kind of understanding gained without recourse
to the usual processes of rational thought
  • A way of arriving at conclusions on the basis of
    limited information and
  • Something you are born with, but which can be
    developed and extended
