• The Riordan Foundation's mission is to provide
  all students, especially those in low-income
  communities, with access to a high-quality
  education that will prepare them to compete
  successfully in the 21st Century.

• Founded by former Mayor of Los Angeles Richard J.
  Riordan in 1981.
• Rx for Reading is the nonprofit affiliate that
  makes it possible for the foundation to raise
  funds to support the grant programs.

Development

• Currently TRF is piloting a new ELD Software
  Imagine Learning English.
• ILE provides a research-based language
  acquisition curriculum including specially
  designed areas
• Vocabulary
• Literacy
• Listening and Speaking
• School Readiness

• TRF intends to initiate the ILE software grant by
  invitation only this fall.
• TRF will likely expand the ILE grant program to
  make it an open application process by the spring
  of 2010.

• Comprehensive language arts program for grades
  K-2.
• Adapts to each childs learning pace.
• Grant includes hardware, software, installation,
  warranty, and training.
• Books, videotapes, and audio cassettes also
  included.
• Challenge varies.
• By invitation only.

• 1,000 grant for individual classroom library for
  grades K-5
• Supports recreational reading
• Guidelines application process
