  • Notes
  • Capo 5th fret to play in tune with the John Prine
    Live album version
  • Some of the measures above are actually 2
measures, I dont know exactly where the break is
so I didnt put it in there. You might want to
listen to the record for the exact timing.
  • I use my thumb to finger the 3rd fret for the G
note (sixth string) of the Bm/G chord
  • The red lines indicate 2 notes that are played
    together
  • The song ends with the same pinched G notes
that are tabbed at the end of the chorus

G Well I can stand beside D Ideals I think
are right G And I can stand beside D The
idea to stand and fight Em I do believe
There's a D dream for everyone C This is our
G country G There's room enough here D For
science to live G And there's room enough here
For D religion to forgive Em And try to
understand All the D people of this land C
This is our G country From the C east coast
To the G west coast Down the Em Dixie Highway
Back ho D me C This is our G country G
That poverty could be D Just another ugly
thing G And bigotry would be D Seen only as
obscene Em And the ones that run this land D
Help the poor and common man C This is our G
country From the C east coast To the G west
coast Down the Em Dixie Highway Back ho D me
C This is our G country G The dream is
still alive DSome day it will come true G
And this country it belongs D To folks like me
and you EmSo let the voice of freedom D Sing
out through this land C This is our G country
From the C east coast To the G west coast
Down the Em Dixie Highway Back ho D me C
This is our G country From the C east coast
To the G west coast Down the Em Dixie Highway
Back ho D me C This is our G country
