  • 10Y5 has been a troubling class for an NQT
  • 1 permanent exclusion
  • 1 seriously ill with cystic fibrosis
  • 1 school refuser, who eventually refused for good
  • 2 now on a college programme (but 1 was sent
    back)
  • 1 Physical/Sensory, Statemented, moved down to
    this set
  • 1 Dyslexic, School Action Plus
  • 3 on the target 5 A-C EM list
  • 1 with estranged parents both having a go at me
    rather than each other because little Johnny
    cant get a B in Foundation
  • Otherwise, a pretty nice class

A new plan for Y11
  • Interview feedback
  • Low self-esteem / aspirations
  • Bored with Maths / enervated by behaviour issues
  • Yearning for more variety / creativity
  • New plan based around five-lesson fortnight
  • Use RAG Y10 exam results to pick topics for
    2-week focus
  • Identify 3 varied lessons
  • Fourth lesson for consolidation, including
    laptops
  • Fifth lesson is a test and a quiz
  • After one term, behaviour definitely better
  • Formula beginning to wear thin

A new plan for 2008
  • More detailed review of RAG/Mocks
  • Shortfall now identified at question level
  • Three types of gap identified
  • Underpin
  • Fundamental grade D or low grade C remedy
  • Pillars
  • Challenging but accessible grade C questions
  • Roof
  • Grade C questions that deliver high marks but
    theyll forget unless its covered very late
