CREATING LIFE-LONG LEARNING
  • How much do we learn? William Glasser
  • We learn 20 of what we hear.
  • We learn 30 of what we see.
  • We learn 70 in interaction, oral and manual.
  • We learn 95 of what we teach.

55
CREATING LIFE-LONG LEARNING
  • How Much Do We Learn? Thoth
  • We learn 100 of what we WRITE - Thoth
  • This principle, Great Pharaoh, will make the
Egyptians learn more and it will improve their
memories my invention is a perfected recipe for
    both memory and life-long learning.
  • Plato in Phaedrus

The Scene of Writing

The Scene of Writing
  • I heard that at Naucratis in Egypt there lived
one of the old cosmic geniuses of that country,
the one whose sacred symbol is the ibis and the
name of the man was Thoth. It was he who first
invented numbers and calculus, geometry and
astronomy, not to speak of draughts and dice, and
above all writing. Now the Divine ruler of All
Egypt at that time was Imon (Ammon) who lived in
the magnificent city that the Greeks call
Egyptian Thebes. Thoth came to him and exhibited
his inventions and declared that they should be
taught to all the Egyptians. And Imon questioned
him about the usefulness of each one and as
Thoth enumerated, the King blamed or praised what
he thought were the good and bad points in the
explanation. Now Imon is said to have had a good
deal to remark on both sides of the question
about every single invention, but when it came to
writing, Thoth said, This principle, Great
Pharoah, will improve their memories and will
make the Egyptians life-long learners my
invention is a recipe for both memory and wisdom.
