SPORTS in the 1960s
  • In the 1960s there were plenty of sports. In
fact, we even had some sports that we dont have
    today such as bowling.
  • The only sports our school allowed girls to play
    in the 1960s was cheerleading.

Score!!!!
3
clubs
  • There were many clubs in the 1960s such as
bowling club which many girls did because
athletically they were not allowed to do much of
    anything else.
  • Their clubs usually consisted of at least twenty
    people.
  • They had other clubs such as Rifle club, DECA
club, Business club, Tomorrows Nurses, Girls
Athletic Consul, and the Radio club.
  • DECA club existed in the sixties and for a few
years after, then went away and came back once
    again with Mrs. Mendel.

Sport uniforms
Guys. . . .short shorts?
  • The uniforms for cheerleaders were kind of
similar to what they are today, their
cheerleading uniforms consisted of a long sleeve
v-neck sweater and a poof skirt that went to at
least their knees and no shorter.
  • The uniforms for the basket ball players were
similar except there shorts were really short
like most girls shorts are today.
  • Every guy who played a sport was asked to shave
    their legs.

5
School rules
  • The consequences of their wrong actions would be
whoever was caught doing whatever, was expelled.
  • There was never no in school suspension once you
were caught you were done with the school for the
    rest of the year.
  • Their main rules were they were to never swear on
    school grounds.
  • There was no smoking any ware near the school.

No detention!!!

Hair/ make up
Just perfect
  • Girls hair styles were usually very puffy and in
the right place at all times, they never had
    extremely frizzy hair.
  • Girls usually wore tons and tons
of make up, usually they were the
    darker shades of eye shadow.
  • Girls always tried to look their
    best no matter what.

7
fashion
  • Girls fashion
  • Girls were only allowed to wear skirts, no
shorter than the knees and most of the time they
    went to the floor.
  • They never wore tee shirts they were always
button down with different length .
  • Boys fashion
  • Boys were never allowed to wear blue jeans they
always wore like khakis. They were allowed to
were plain tee shirts but most usually wore
    button downs like the girls.

Important info..
  • Before the High School was built the school that
we now know as the Intermediate School was the
    high school in the .
  • The High School was built because the classes
    started to become over crowed.

More important info
  • When the school was built, there used to be
classes for elementary students in the Irving
Wing (down were the nurses office is today).
  • Prior to the new school opening, there were so
many students that they used to have double
sessions, a school day that ran in the morning
and a school day that ran in the afternoon.
