Sprayer Pumps
  • Hypro Series Roller Pump
  • 12 GPM _at_ 540 RPM
  • Pumps perform an integral role in liquid
    applications systems
  • Takes liquid from tank
  • Pressurizes the liquid
  • Pressurized liquid is sent to the booms
  • There are many types of pumps available for
    agricultural use.
  • The two most common for sprayers are
  • Roller Pumps
  • Diaphragm Pumps

Pressurized Liquid Output
Liquid Intake
4
Radar Detector
  • Purpose of a Radar Detector
  • Used to sense speed
  • Why is speed important?
  • application rate is a function of the flow rate,
the nozzle spacing, and the speed!

Only used on Electronic Rate Control Systems and
Variable Rate Systems
5
Liquid Storage Tank
  • The tank contains the liquid to be applied
  • The material to be applied is mixed with water in
    the tank

Pressure Relief Valve
  • The Pressure Relief Valve
  • meters the flow into the boom system
  • Sends excess liquid back to the tank
  • liquid return helps to agitate the liquid stored
in the tank (keeps the solution well mixed.

9
Flow Meter
  • Purpose of the Flow Meter
  • To sense the amount of liquid traveling through
    the system
  • Used on Electronic Rate Control Systems and
    Variable Rate Systems

10
Flow Control Valve
  • Purpose of the Flow Control Valve
  • To control the amount of liquid traveling to the
    system
  • Used on Electronic Rate Control Systems and
    Variable Rate Systems

11
Boom Valves
  • Purpose of the boom Valve
  • to turn a boom section on or off to allow or
disallow flow to a particular boom section
  • Electronic Boom Valves
  • shown in picture
  • Generally used on Electronic Rate Control or
    Variable Rate Systems
  • Controlled by a switch in the Cab

12
Boom Sections
Boom Sections hold the nozzle assemblies. The
sections are connected by a breakaway hinge.
Breakaway Hinge Allows the boom section to bend,
reducing damage from accidental entanglement.
Nozzle Assembly Holds the nozzle (tip) that
atomizes the liquid.
-Many types of Assemblies and tips (dependant
upon application).
13
Boom Sections
  • Purpose of Nozzle Assemblies and Tips (nozzles)
  • Nozzle Assemblies hold the tips to the boom and
allow water to flow to the tip.
  • There are several types of nozzle assemblies
  • Examples Corner, Tee, etc.
  • Examples With check valve, or without
  • Check valves are used to eliminate issues related
to chemical drip after the boom section is turned
    off
  • Tips atomize, meter, and distribute the liquid
    evenly across the field

Cab Components
  • Purpose of Cab Components
  • To allow easy access to prayer information
  • To provide a convenient method for changing spray
    parameters
  • Rate Controller
  • Raven SCS 660
  • Allows easy setup for electronic rate control
    activities.
  • Controls sprayer components. i.e. Flow control
    valve and boom valves
  • Electronic Rate Control
  • Data Logger/ Prescription controller
  • Sends target values to the rate controller
  • Logs data from the rate controller
  • Variable Rate Control

Component Breakdown Flow Meter
  • Flow Meter
  • Measures the amount of water traveling through
    the system
  • Uses a turbine blade to rotate the shaft
  • The shaft has magnetic pickups
  • The magnetic pickups count the number of
    revolutions
  • This is calibrated to give the flow rate

18
Component Breakdown Flow Meter
  • Flow Control Valve
  • Determines the amount of liquid to go to the boom
    Valves.
  • Uses a butterfly valve to increase/ decrease flow
  • As the valve closes less liquid can pa through
  • As the valve opens more liquid passes through

19
Component Breakdown Boom Valves
  • Boom Valves
  • These Valves are used to turn sections of the
    boom on/off.
  • Each valve controls 1 boom section
  • There are 3 valves on this component it can
control up to three boom sections
  • There are generally between 1 and 7 boom sections
    on a sprayer.
  • The longer the boom width, the more sections
  • The controller needs to be able to control at
least as many valves as there are boom sections
    on the sprayer.
