Title: Tips for creating PowerPoint presentations for Content Point

1
Tips for creating PowerPointpresentations for
Content Point
  • This presentation gives hints and tips for
    creating
  • PowerPoint presentations and editing existing
    material for
  • use in e-learning courses.
  • Edit your presentations to match these settings
    before
  • importing them into Content Point for optimal
    results.

2
Set the presentation size
  • You should set the size of your presentation to
match the size of your course to avoid image
    scaling
  • Under File gt Page Setup, set a custom size of
    36.1 x 27.1cm (14.23 x10.67 inches). This
    equates to a course size of 1024 x 768

3
Allow space for course navigation
Top navigation
  • Allow space at the top and bottom of your
PowerPoint slides to account for the navigation
    bars in your e-learning course.
  • For the default navigation, this equates to 32
pixels at the top and bottom of your presentation.

Bottom navigation
4
Use a consistent slide master
  • Use a single slide master in your presentations
  • When you import presentations into Content Point,
you have the option whether to include the slide
    master or not
  • This allows you to match presentations to the
existing look of your e-learning courses

5
Be consistent in the use of text
  • Use consistent fonts, sizes and colours in your
    presentations
  • Verdana font is recommended for readability in
ane-learning course (avoid Arial and Times as
    they do not display well)
  • Use Format gt Replace Fonts to replace fonts in a
    presentation
  • Size text boxes slightly larger than they need to
be, to avoid word wrapping when imported into
    Content Point

6
Images in PowerPoint
  • Display images at their actual size in your
    presentations
  • Double click images and select Size gt Reset to
    reset image sizes
  • If you need to scale or crop images, do this in
Microsoft Office Picture Manager then import them
  • Do not paste images directly from the clipboard
as this can lead to problems when importing to
    Content Point

7
Slide notes
  • Slide notes in PowerPoint are imported as slide
    notes in Content Point
  • Use PowerPoint slide notes to describe how slides
should be improved in Content Point, e.g. Use a
multiple choice quiz on this slide

8
Complex slides
  • Complex slides (e.g. animations or build-ups) may
not be recreated completely in Content Point
  • Consider recreating these slides as Flash movies
for import into Content Point, e.g. use
    FlashSpring.
  • The content of these Flash movies (e.g. text and
graphics) could be made content manageable in
    Content Point if required

9
Importing PowerPoint slides into Content Point
  • Increase the Quality of images setting to
    improve quality
  • Use an existing background in the course if you
want to match the imported slides to the course
(also, dont import the Master Background)
  • Content Point will re-create animations (e.g.
    text appearance), actions (e.g. auto-navigation
between slides) and text inputs but the result
may not be desirable. Test by importing a few
    slides to Content Point
  • Content Point cannot replicate external file
links and links to URLs. Remove these before
importing as they can cause the import to fail.
  • Animations, actions, text inputs and file links
can be re-created in Content Point if required.
